WOMEN IN MIDDLEHAM
NEWSLETTER – AUGUST 2025

1. Feedback on trip to Brancepeth Castle Tuesday, 8th July.
Owned by the Dobson family since 1978. Bought as a base for Dennis Dobson’s publishing company. There was an exterior talk about the Neville family and the castle, and how the Nevilles fit in with Middleham. Later, there was an interior talk about the current owners’ family history. The church was amazing. It burnt down 20 years ago and then magnificently re-built. There’s also a chapel is within the castle.

Afternoon tea was fabulous with plenty of cake! Scored 9/10. Very informative.

3. Afternoon Tea Stone House Hotel, Sedbusk, Tuesday 2nd September.

The last chance to sign up is Tuesday, 19th August at the next general meeting, after which, the list will close.

The cost is £24.50pp. You can now pay using our new WiM online bank account - details are at the end of this newsletter - or cheque/cash in a sealed envelope with your name, amount and event. Payments MUST be made by the next general meeting.

This event will be drivers/passengers, leaving Middleham at 1.30pm with a confirmed seating time of 2.15pm.

Cookie will advise all drivers, who will then contact their delegated passengers regarding a pick-up time.

5. Lunch at the Wensleydale Hotel Wednesday, 8th October. (Organised by Wendy)
This is a very popular and successful event, which has been enjoyed for the last two years! Wendy will give us all the details at the next meeting, when you can sign up for it.

6. A ‘coach-only’ return trip to York, Monday, 17th November.
This was a successful event last year - a drop-off in York to do whatever you want with your day. The cost is £16pp and is also open to Leyburn residents.

Leaving Middleham at 9.00am, returning from York at 4.30pm.

The trip will be advertised in Leyburn Life from September.

7. Information re. next general meeting - Tuesday 19th August.
Briefings about upcoming events; Afternoon tea at the Stone House Hotel, Sedbusk. Lunch at the Wensleydale Hotel in October. The coach trip to York in November and a December outing by coach to Castle Howard. Everything you need to know!

Julia will relay information about the new WiM online bank account, which is now up and running.

The speaker is Rosemary Cook – ‘Murder as a Scientist – the Wickedness of Dr. Warder’.

8. Questionnaire results and feedback received.
The results will be available on paper at the next meeting.

Members want more variety regarding trips. This has been noted by the Committee.

The Committee is always happy to receive feedback and suggestions.
